The local government of Masantol has announced the strengthening of protection and rights for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) through the implementation of a new ordinance. Municipal Ordinance No. 2026-003, Series of 2026, known as the PWD Grievance Redress Ordinance, aims to establish a clear, safe, and accessible system for filing, investigating, and resolving complaints involving PWDs.
Scope of the Ordinance
The ordinance covers cases related to discrimination, abuse, neglect, denial of benefits, accessibility concerns, and other violations of PWD rights. It ensures that all complaints are handled with confidentiality and that complainants are protected from retaliation or any form of unfair treatment.
Creation of Grievance Board
Mayor Dan Guintu announced the creation of a PWD Grievance Redress Board to oversee the processing of complaints. The board will be responsible for ensuring that complaints are investigated thoroughly and resolved in a timely manner.
Mayor Guintu emphasized the administration's commitment to equal protection for all residents, stating, “Pantay-pantay na proteksyon para sa bawat Masantoleño. Babae ka man o lalaki, bata o matanda, at maging may mga kapansanan, lahat may karapatan sa ating bayan.” (Equal protection for every Masantoleño. Whether you are a woman or a man, child or adult, and even those with disabilities, everyone has rights in our town.)
The ordinance reflects the local government's proactive approach to safeguarding the welfare of PWDs and ensuring their full participation in community life.
