The Philippine National Police (PNP) has officially declared the 2025 Christmas celebrations across the nation as generally peaceful, marked by successful security operations and a heartwarming display of holiday spirit from an unexpected public servant.
Nationwide Peace and Order During Simbang Gabi
In a statement released on Thursday, December 26, the PNP highlighted the orderly and safe conduct of the Christmas Eve Mass on December 24. This followed the successful security coverage for the nine traditional Simbang Gabi or dawn masses held from December 16 to 24 nationwide.
PNP Acting Chief, Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., stated that police personnel were strategically deployed in churches, major transport hubs, and key public areas. This ensured the safety of churchgoers and the general public throughout the festive period.
"We celebrated Christmas Eve happily and peacefully. We did not record any incidents related to the masses," Nartatez said. He credited this achievement to the collective discipline of Filipinos and the proactive presence of police forces on the ground.
Police Dedication and Community Values
Nartatez emphasized that the Christmas season reflects core values of compassion and service, which also guide the PNP as an organization. He expressed deep gratitude to the police officers who remained on duty while many families were celebrating.
"While many Filipinos spend this season with their loved ones, our police officers remain on duty across the country," he noted, acknowledging their sacrifices in maintaining community safety. He also thanked church leaders, local government units, and volunteers for their cooperation.
A Santa Claus on Macapagal Avenue
Adding a unique touch to the holiday mood in Metro Manila, traffic enforcer Ramiro Hinojas was spotted directing vehicles while wearing a full Santa Claus costume along Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City on Tuesday, December 23.
Hinojas shared that he dons the festive attire during the Christmas season specifically to lighten the mood of motorists caught in the area's notorious heavy traffic. His cheerful initiative became a symbol of the season's spirit amidst the usual hustle of the metropolis.
Continued Vigilance for the New Year
The PNP has assured the public that heightened police visibility and safety operations will continue through the remaining holidays, including New Year's Eve celebrations. The force reiterated its commitment under the "Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas" framework, promising fast, honest, and tangible service.
"As we mark this holy season, the PNP renews its commitment to serve with integrity, professionalism, and respect for human rights," Nartatez concluded, hoping the Christmas spirit would continue to inspire unity and peace in communities across the Philippines.
