In a sweeping nationwide crackdown, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has achieved a significant victory against organized crime. From March 2 to 3, 2026, law enforcement officers successfully apprehended thirty-five of the country's most wanted individuals and confiscated an astonishing PHP69 million worth of illegal narcotics and smuggled cigarettes.
Major Arrests and Charges
The suspects now face a litany of serious criminal charges, reflecting the severity of their alleged activities. These include multiple counts of murder, rape, theft, and violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, as well as the Illegal Possession of Firearms law. The operations underscore the PNP's intensified efforts to bring high-profile criminals to justice.
PNP Chief Commends Efforts
Philippine National Police chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. praised the dedication of his forces in a statement released on Wednesday. "These arrests demonstrate that our tracker teams and intelligence units are working tirelessly, around the clock, to ensure public safety and uphold the law," he declared. The coordinated efforts highlight the PNP's commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the archipelago.
Massive Drug Seizure Details
Authorities reported that the total value of seized contraband reached PHP69 million, with illegal drugs accounting for PHP37.9 million and smuggled cigarettes valued at PHP31 million. A particularly notable discovery involved three abandoned inbound parcels at a cargo facility in Parañaque City, which contained:
- Approximately 4,046 grams of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), commonly known as ecstasy, worth PHP29.7 million.
- 3,596 grams of shabu, a powerful methamphetamine.
Investigators have identified three local consignees linked to these shipments, with the parcels originating from foreign shippers in Germany and Zambia, according to PNP reports.
Cigarette Smuggling Crackdown
In parallel operations, law enforcement targeted illicit tobacco trade, resulting in the confiscation of smuggled cigarettes in multiple regions. Successful raids were conducted in Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Pampanga, disrupting supply chains and preventing significant revenue loss to the government.
This comprehensive operation not only removes dangerous criminals from the streets but also strikes a blow against the financial underpinnings of organized crime through the seizure of high-value contraband. The PNP continues to urge public cooperation and vigilance as part of its ongoing campaign to maintain national security and order.
