PNP Chief Mandates Deployment Review to Shield Officers from Summer Heat

In a proactive move to safeguard frontline personnel, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has issued a directive for police commanders to thoroughly review their deployment strategies and personnel assessments. This initiative aims to ensure that the health conditions of officers assigned to ground duties remain uncompromised amidst the intense summer heat.

Prioritizing Officer Health During Hot Season

Through an official statement, Nartatez emphasized the critical need to protect officers on duty, particularly those conducting patrols and manning checkpoints, from common heat-related ailments such as heat stroke and cramps. He underscored the importance of maintaining hydration at all times and implementing reasonable working hours or shifts to prevent overexposure to high temperatures.

"While your PNP is working to ensure everyone’s safety, we also have to look after the welfare and protection of our personnel on the ground from threat of health problems this dry season. Let us also take care of our health so we can serve the public better," Nartatez stated.

He further added, "If there’s a need for security adjustments, so be it. What is important is that we ensure that all our personnel are also safe and protected." This flexible approach highlights the PNP's commitment to balancing operational demands with officer well-being.

Weather Bureau Warns of Rising Temperatures

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has officially declared the end of the amihan season, alerting the public to prepare for significantly hotter conditions. According to Pagasa, temperatures are projected to reach their peak during the months of April and May, intensifying the risk of heat-related health issues.

Heightened Alert for Summer Security

In response to the seasonal challenges, the PNP will maintain a heightened alert status from March 29 to May 31, 2026. This measure is designed to uphold peace and order throughout the summer vacation period, ensuring that security operations proceed smoothly while prioritizing the health and safety of police personnel.
