PNP Announces Major Decline in Crimes During 2026 Holy Week Observance

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reported a notably peaceful Holy Week celebration across the nation in 2026, with no major incidents recorded as of Monday, April 6. According to police data, the period saw a significant reduction in overall criminal activities and accidents, although fire incidents experienced a sharp increase.

Detailed Statistics Show Widespread Improvements

Vehicle accidents decreased from 9,388 in 2025 to 8,259 this year, while drowning incidents dropped from 143 to 84. However, fire incidents more than doubled, rising from 82 in 2025 to 170 in 2026. In a news briefing, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla acknowledged that delays in fire truck procurement contributed to this surge.

Focus Crimes See Substantial Reduction

Overall focus crimes fell by 23%, from 1,574 cases in 2025 to 1,207 in 2026. Specific declines include:

Total Incidents Drop Nationwide

Total recorded incidents across the country decreased by 13%, from 11,187 in 2025 to 9,720 in 2026. PNP Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. credited this success to enhanced collaboration with local government units and other law enforcement agencies.

The PNP emphasized that ongoing coordination between government agencies and citizens is crucial to maintaining peace and safety, especially during major events like Holy Week.
