Details of the Snatching Incident

The suspect, identified as Berly, 45, a resident of Sityo Auto Bus on N. Bacalso Avenue, targeted the victim, a 21-year-old student known as Rose from Naya Village in Barangay Tisa. While Rose was riding a public utility jeepney (PUJ) on route 12D heading to Labangon, Berly suddenly snatched the cellular phone she was holding. The victim immediately sought assistance from on-duty police personnel in the area.

Arrest and Violent Confrontation

Police Patrolman Kim Jabonete responded promptly to the call for help. Accompanied by the victim, he conducted a search of nearby residences after receiving tips about the suspect's whereabouts. Upon locating Berly's residence, the suspect confronted the officer and attempted to stab him, resulting in injuries to Patrolman Jabonete's left arm. Despite the attack, authorities managed to subdue Berly and recover the stolen cellphone, valued at approximately 6,800 pesos.

Suspect's Criminal History and Charges

Investigations by the Sawang Calero Police Station revealed that Berly has been previously reported multiple times for snatching offenses in the same locality. She now faces serious legal charges, including theft and attempted homicide, as a result of this violent episode.
