The Philippine National Police (PNP) Health Service announced that Senator Rodante Marcoleta is in stable condition but is not medically fit to face trial due to his fluctuating blood pressure (BP).
Medical Evaluation Underway
Lt. Col. Benaly Bayani, chief of the Internal Medicine Section at the PNP Health Service, said the 72-year-old senator is being closely observed and has undergone several diagnostic tests. “Right now, he is still undergoing a medical workup for further evaluation. We are still waiting for the results of the laboratory tests we conducted on him,” Bayani stated.
Marcoleta has been subjected to a battery of examinations, including blood chemistry tests, an electrocardiogram (ECG), chest X-ray, 2D echocardiogram, and cervical spine X-ray. “Right now, his blood pressure is fluctuating. Considering his age and his comorbidities, and since Senator Marcoleta is a known hypertensive patient, we need to closely monitor his blood pressure,” Bayani explained.
Facilities and Visitation
The PNP Health Service has all the necessary medical facilities and equipment to assess the senator's condition. According to Bayani, only Marcoleta's family members and his legal counsel are allowed to visit him.
However, he confirmed that Vice President Sara Duterte visited the senator from 7:30 a.m. to around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
