Cebu City Aims to Complete Delayed MRB, Plans 3 More for Typhoon Victims
Cebu City to Finish Delayed Housing, Build 3 More MRBs

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival has announced that the local government is actively working to resolve documentation problems that have stalled the completion of a medium-rise building (MRB) in Barangay Lorega San Miguel. This effort is part of the city's broader goal to expand its socialized housing program and relocate families affected by disasters.

Documentation Hurdles Delay P200-Million Project

Mayor Archival revealed that the two existing MRB projects in Lorega have a total project cost of nearly P200 million. While over P100 million has already been disbursed, one building remains unfinished due to unresolved documentation and complaints from the contractor. Once these issues are settled, the city aims to complete and occupy the more than 200 housing units in the delayed MRB.

Both MRB structures are situated on a 1,350-square meter lot in Lorega San Miguel, which is owned by the Cebu City Government. The first building, constructed by Cebu Landmasters Inc., was fully completed and has been occupied by approximately 100 families since July 2023. Beneficiaries were selected based on their needs and the recommendations of local authorities.

Future Plans: Three New MRBs for Disaster Victims in Talamban

Looking ahead, Mayor Archival stated that the city plans to construct three additional MRBs on a site in Talamban currently owned by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). The city is awaiting the transfer of the land's ownership to proceed.

These planned housing buildings will prioritize the relocation of typhoon victims and families currently residing in barangay gyms and public school classrooms. The pace of construction for these new projects will depend on the speed of the land transfer and the documentation process.

Expanding Cebu City's Housing Solutions

The initiative underscores the city administration's commitment to addressing the urgent need for affordable and safe housing. By resolving the delays in Lorega and pushing forward with new projects in Talamban, the government seeks to provide sustainable housing solutions for vulnerable residents, particularly those displaced by natural calamities.
