Jimmy Alapag will officially take over as head coach of the NLEX Road Warriors when the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Season 50 Governors' Cup conference opens on July 10, 2026, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Alapag's First Assignment
In his debut coaching role, Alapag will lead the Road Warriors against guest team Macau Giant Pandas in the main game of the doubleheader. The first game will feature Terrafirma Dyip against Titan Ultra Giant Risers.
Alapag, a former PBA MVP and national team standout, brings extensive experience from his six-year stint as a member of the Sacramento Kings coaching staff in the NBA. He expressed his excitement about returning to the Philippines to apply his knowledge.
"To have an opportunity to come back home and be able to pour all of that knowledge and all that wisdom that I've gained in the NBA, and to pour that back into Philippine basketball, it felt like now was the right time," Alapag said, as quoted on www.abs-cbnnews.com.
Import Height Limit Change
For this conference, the import height limit is set at 6'6", a change from the previous Commissioner's Cup which had no height restriction. This adjustment is expected to impact team strategies and player matchups throughout the tournament.
