Lapu-Lapu Mayor's Cup 2026 Basketball Opens at Hoops Dome

The 1st Lapu-Lapu City Mayor's Cup 2026 Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament officially commenced on Sunday, May 10, at the Hoops Dome in Barangay Gun-ob.

A total of 20 barangays and 10 inter-subdivisions in the city are participating in the competition, which is organized by the Lapu-Lapu City Government through the Lapu-Lapu City Sports Commission.

In her message during the opening ceremony of the city's largest grassroots sporting event, Mayor Cindi King-Chan emphasized the true meaning of sportsmanship, discipline, and playing with integrity.

"Sports teach us lessons and the value of hard work, the necessity of sacrifice, and the strength to get back up after a fall," Mayor Chan said.

Mayor Chan expressed her full support for all participating teams and added consolation prizes.

Also present at the opening ceremony were ABC President and Basak Barangay Captain Jasmine Marie Chan-Olmstead, Sports Commissioner Vince Chan Carungay, SK Federation President Orlan Joseph Chan Carungay, as well as barangay captains, barangay officials, and SK officials.

Adding color to the event was the presentation of muses, where Mainland Dinnah Brennan of Barangay Gun-ob won as Sports Ambassadress 2026, with Chenna Filomeno of Barangay Bankal as 1st runner-up and Marie Stokes of Barangay Buaya as 2nd runner-up.
