Cebuano boxer Jemuel Aranas is set to face the toughest challenge of his career when he takes on former world champion Phumelela Cafu of South Africa in a 10-round bout on August 1, 2026, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Aranas aims for third straight win

Aranas, 21, a native of Carcar City, Cebu, is seeking his third consecutive victory. In his last two fights, he defeated Renoel Pael and Jeric Noynay. His win over Noynay on May 9 at the Cebu Coliseum earned him the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Silver flyweight title.

Overall, Aranas, who trains under the Cebu-based Chao Sy Boxing Stable, holds a record of 9-3-1 with 5 knockouts.

Cafu's championship pedigree

Cafu became a world champion in October 2024 by defeating Japanese fighter Kosei Tanaka via split decision. However, in his first defense of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight title, he suffered a 10th-round TKO loss to American Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez.

Cafu carries a record of 11-1-3 with 8 knockouts.
