Officials in Ilocos Norte announced on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, that the province is in the final stages of preparation for the upcoming Little League Philippines Series national championships. The event is scheduled to take place from April 17 to 24, 2026, in Laoag City, with expectations of attracting up to 6,000 participants from 170 teams across the country.
Venues and Logistics Confirmed for Major Youth Sports Event
Faivo Bartolome, the sports consultant for Ilocos Norte, confirmed that all billeting quarters and playing venues have been thoroughly identified, inspected, and verified to ensure a smooth and successful tournament. This meticulous preparation underscores the province's commitment to hosting high-quality sports events.
The tournament will feature athletes aged 17 and below competing in baseball and softball. Winning teams will earn the prestigious opportunity to represent the Philippines in the Asia-Pacific and World Series, which are held in the United States, providing a significant platform for young talent on the international stage.
Sports Facilities Ready and Programs Expanding
Helen Domingo, the sports development officer for Ilocos Norte, added that all sports facilities are fully prepared and equipped to accommodate the athletes. Organized by Little League Philippines, the event aims to offer young athletes nationwide valuable opportunities to develop essential skills, discipline, and sportsmanship through competitive play at a high level.
In addition to the Little League championships, the Office of Ilocos Norte Second District Representative Angelo Marcos Barba (AMB) is set to introduce the AMB tennis clinic for adults this summer. This program is open to beginner and intermediate players, with the goal of fostering grassroots tennis talent and expanding recreational sports offerings in the region.
Recent Successes and Growing Sports Tourism Hub
Over the weekend, the AMB beach volleyball 7.0 tournament concluded at Currimao beach, where the City of Batac dominated both the men's and women's divisions, showcasing local athletic prowess. Representative Barba expressed optimism about the province's sports growth, stating in an earlier interview, "We are growing stronger and we hope to expand more," while emphasizing support for athletes in developing discipline, teamwork, and composure under pressure.
Ilocos Norte has firmly established itself as a thriving sports tourism hub in Northern Luzon. The province has a proven track record of hosting major events, including the Region 1 Athletic Association Meet, national beach volleyball tournaments, the Tinman triathlon, and international rowing and surfing competitions. This reputation highlights its capacity to attract and manage large-scale sports activities, contributing to both local development and national sports promotion.
