Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that if Rodriguez (23-0, 16 KOs) defeats Antonio Vargas (19-1-1, 11 KOs) on June 13, 2026, in Glendale, Arizona, USA, a move up in weight to challenge Inoue could be next.
For the fight against Vargas, Rodriguez will compete in the bantamweight division. Hearn stated that a victory over Vargas would open the door for Rodriguez to climb another weight class and face Inoue, who holds a perfect record of 33-0 with 27 knockouts.
