DSWD 7 Launches Safer Internet Campaign 2026 with Focus on AI and Child Protection

The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7 (DSWD 7) has underscored the critical importance of responsible Artificial Intelligence and internet usage as part of its Safer Internet Campaign 2026. This initiative was officially launched during the Monday Convocation Program on February 9, 2026, targeting the creation of a safer digital environment for children and enhancing public awareness about online protection mechanisms.

Campaign Activities and Regional Efforts

During the event, Ligaya Dael, the Children Sector Focal Person at DSWD 7, presented a monthly calendar of activities designed to promote internet safety. These efforts include a series of webinar sessions focused on educating children about safe online practices. The campaign is set to culminate in a regional activity scheduled for February 26, 2026, aimed at reinforcing the message across Central Visayas.

Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero emphasized that DSWD 7 is committed to strengthening the implementation of laws and policies that encourage responsible internet use to ensure the safety and protection of children. She highlighted the vital role of parents as the first line of defense against online dangers, urging them to actively engage in safeguarding their children.

Addressing Online Threats and Encouraging Support

Lucero stated, "DSWD-7 is actively monitoring and responding to reports of Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and the proliferation of Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM). We continue to reinforce laws and intensify efforts to combat these issues. We also encourage parents to take an active role as the first protectors of their children in ensuring the safe and responsible use of the internet."

As part of the campaign, DSWD 7 employees are encouraged to wear blue clothing every Tuesday as a symbol of their support for the safer internet advocacy. This gesture aligns with Proclamation No. 417, s. 2018, which declares the second Tuesday of February each year as Safer Internet Day for Children in the Philippines, promoting a safer online experience for the youth.

The campaign represents a proactive approach to addressing digital risks, leveraging community involvement and regulatory measures to foster a secure online space for children in the region.
