National Bureau of Investigation Director Atty. Melvin Matibag has called attention to what he describes as 'inappropriate coordinate behavior' by individuals or groups using online platforms. The director emphasized the need to investigate and address this issue, as these groups or instigators have clear intentions and motives to cause harm.
Resurfacing of Old Audio Recording
This statement comes amid the resurgence and spread of an old audio call recording across various online platforms, featuring a heated argument between Atty. Matibag and Mel Sabio. In the recording, the director can be heard making threats and using profanity, which he later did not deny during a press conference, admitting the incident occurred. However, Matibag revealed that he and Sabio have since reconciled and remain friends despite the past altercation.
Sabio's Explanation
Mel Sabio clarified that the circulating video of their argument dates back to 2020. He suggested that its reemergence on public and online platforms may be part of an attempt to tarnish the identity of his friend as the bureau director. Matibag admitted that the incident is one of the 'weak points' of his life, but he remains prepared if it is used against him. He acknowledged that it is inevitable that some groups would seek to exploit the situation to push their own agendas.
Gratitude to NBI Staff
The director also expressed gratitude to the agency's personnel for their continued support of his leadership and the work they do under his guidance.
