The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Mafar-Barmm) recently distributed postharvest machinery and equipment to fisherfolk from the Maguindanao provinces to help enhance their livelihoods.
Distribution Event in Cotabato City
According to Mafar Minister Abunawas Maslamama, the equipment was handed over to beneficiaries last week in Kalanganan 2 village, Cotabato City. The assistance package included 20 fish carts, 10 solar freezers, and five portable smokehouses. Funding for the initiative came from the 2025 General Appropriations Act for the Bangsamoro (GAAB).
Purpose of the Assistance
Maslamama explained that the aid aims to improve the handling, storage, processing, and transport of fishery products, thereby maintaining quality and increasing the income of fishermen. He stressed the importance of proper use and maintenance of the equipment to ensure long-term benefits.
“Every aid provided by the government comes with the responsibility of the beneficiaries to use and care for them properly,” Maslamama said in a statement.
Memorandum of Agreement Signed
Mafar officials and the beneficiaries also signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to guarantee the proper maintenance and utilization of the equipment for the sustained advantage of the recipients. The distribution event was witnessed by Mafar officials from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, including representatives from the Maguindanao provinces, the Special Geographic Area, and Cotabato City.
