AppleOne Group Launches Mahi Centre, a Township-Style Ecozone in Lapu-Lapu City
Mahi Centre Launch: Township Ecozone Boosts Cebu Investment

CEBU is solidifying its status as a premier investment hub in the Philippines, with new integrated developments enhancing the province's allure for global locators, according to Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) Director General Tereso Panga. During the launch of Mahi Centre, a mixed-use business and lifestyle facility by AppleOne Group, Panga highlighted the changing demands of investors, who now prioritize ecosystem readiness over incentives alone.

Evolving Economic Zones

Panga emphasized that economic zones have historically been key drivers of Philippine growth, drawing international companies and creating quality employment. However, he noted that today, a zone's strength depends heavily on the surrounding community. This shift is reflected in projects like Mahi Centre, which integrates business, residential, retail, and hospitality elements into a township-style economic zone.

Mahi Centre Details

AppleOne Group, based in Cebu, officially launched Mahi Centre on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in Lapu-Lapu City. The development features a three-level boutique mall, a five-floor office tower, and a 196-room Fairfield by Marriott Cebu Mactan hotel. The company leased the property from Peza, which was previously a football field within the Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ).

Panga explained that such integrated developments are crucial for supporting both enterprise operations and workforce well-being, offering spaces where companies can "live, work, learn, and play." He added that Cebu, particularly the MEZ, continues to attract investments, with expansion plans in place to accommodate more multinational firms and generate additional jobs.

Long-Term Vision

AppleOne Group president Ray Go Manigsaca described Mahi Centre as a long-term investment in Mactan's economic future. The project was shaped by stakeholder consultations and an assessment of Mactan's growth trajectory, as the area increasingly draws businesses and investors. Manigsaca stated, "Mahi Center is our answer to creating a space that is accessible, dynamic, and relevant to how people live and work today."

He further noted that the development aims to meet the needs of locators, including those within economic zones, while boosting broader economic activity in Mactan. The introduction of new hospitality and lifestyle components addresses rising demand for integrated developments in Lapu-Lapu City, driven by growing tourism and business sectors.

Economic Impact and Support

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Maria Cynthia "Cindi" King Chan welcomed Mahi Centre, highlighting its potential to create jobs, attract investments, and support local enterprises. She said, "Mahi stands as a strong addition to our city's expanding development landscape, reflecting confidence in Lapu-Lapu as a place where investments thrive and communities benefit."

Chan added that such projects strengthen the city's position not only as a tourism destination but also as a center for enterprise and economic opportunity. The launch event was attended by key figures, including Peza Director General Tereso Panga, Mayor Chan, Rep. Junard "Ahong" Chan, and AppleOne Group founders Venus and Ray Manigsaca, along with vice president for hospitality Samantha Manigsaca.

Overall, Mahi Centre represents a significant step in Cebu's economic development, showcasing a modern approach to economic zones that aligns with global investor expectations and local community needs.
