Five Gas Stations in Ilocos Norte Shut Down Amid Oil Supply Crisis
LAOAG CITY – Police authorities have confirmed that five gas stations in Ilocos Norte have ceased operations due to a severe oil supply crisis, directly attributed to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. This development highlights the far-reaching economic impacts of geopolitical tensions on local communities.
Official Confirmation and Supply Shortages
P/Col. Joemar Labiano, the Provincial Director of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office, provided detailed insights into the situation. He stated that out of a total of 189 gas stations across the entire province, five have now completely shut down. The primary reason for these closures, as explained by Labiano, is the depletion of oil supplies, which has left these stations unable to sustain their operations.
Despite the closures, Labiano emphasized that there is currently no immediate threat of a widespread fuel shortage affecting the remaining gas stations in the region. However, he noted that prices at these stations continue to rise steadily, reflecting the broader market pressures caused by the conflict.
Police Deployment to Prevent Price Gouging
In response to the escalating situation, P/Col. Labiano announced that police personnel will be deployed to various gas stations across Ilocos Norte. This measure aims to ensure that no one takes advantage of the crisis by engaging in price gouging or other exploitative practices related to petroleum products. The deployment is part of a broader effort to maintain order and protect consumers during this period of uncertainty.
The ongoing war in the Middle East has disrupted global oil supply chains, leading to shortages and price hikes in regions far from the conflict zone. Ilocos Norte, like many other areas, is feeling the effects, with local businesses struggling to cope with the reduced availability of fuel.
As the situation evolves, authorities are closely monitoring the supply chain to prevent further disruptions. Residents and business owners are advised to stay informed about updates from local officials and to report any irregularities in fuel pricing or availability.
