The Philippine National Police (PNP) has confirmed a significant surge in the closure of gasoline stations across the nation, with the number now exceeding 400. This alarming increase is directly attributed to the relentless rise in crude oil and petroleum product prices, which has placed immense pressure on fuel retailers.
Sharp Increase in Closures
According to PNP Spokesperson and Public Information Office Chief PBGen. Randulf Tuaño, the current figure of over 400 closed stations represents nearly a doubling from the previous week's count of more than 270. This rapid escalation highlights the severe impact of the ongoing oil price crisis on the local fuel distribution network.
Monitoring and Investigation Efforts
In response to this developing situation, the PNP is actively monitoring more than 14,300 gasoline stations nationwide. Simultaneously, the PNP has already taken legal action against three individuals involved in illegal oil sales, hoarding, and profiteering activities.
