Central Visayas RDC Greenlights Infrastructure Push for Cebu Province
The Regional Development Council in Central Visayas (RDC 7) has approved several significant infrastructure initiatives for Cebu Province during its first full quarter meeting held in Cebu. This move aims to bolster regional development and improve connectivity across the Visayas.
Key Recommendations and Approved Projects
Among the pivotal decisions, the council recommended that the national government issue an Executive Order to establish a Department of Transportation (DOTr) regional office specifically for the Visayas. This step is intended to strengthen the implementation of major transport projects throughout the region, including flagship initiatives such as the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), the New Cebu International Container Port, and the expansion, operations, and maintenance of the Bohol-Panglao International Airport.
Additionally, the committee approved a recommendation urging the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Central Office to submit the Lapu-Lapu Coastal Road Project to the Investment Coordination Committee (ICC) of the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) for approval. This project is seen as crucial for enhancing local infrastructure and economic growth.
Funding and Community Benefits
The council also endorsed resolutions and initiatives focused on transportation and a street lighting project valued at P6.5 million for Medellin City. This project will be funded by the Cebu Provincial Government through regional shares from the Enhanced Energy Regulations (ER 1-94) Program, which provides benefits to host communities that acquire energy facilities. This initiative underscores a commitment to sustainable development and improved public services in the area.
Overall, these approvals reflect a concerted effort by the RDC 7 to address infrastructure gaps and promote economic advancement in Central Visayas, with a particular emphasis on Cebu's role as a regional hub.
