DOLE: 200% Holiday Pay for Eid'l Fitr on March 20

DOLE Mandates 200% Holiday Pay for Eid'l Fitr Observance on March 20, 2026

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has officially declared that employees reporting for duty on Friday, March 20, 2026, will be entitled to additional compensation. This follows the government's proclamation of the date as a regular holiday in honor of Eid'l Fitr, also known as the Feast of Ramadhan.

Detailed Holiday Pay Guidelines Issued by DOLE

In accordance with Labor Advisory 4-2026, DOLE has outlined specific payment rules for the holiday. For work performed during this regular holiday, employers are required to pay a total of 200 percent of the employee's daily wage for the first eight hours. This measure ensures that workers are fairly compensated for their service on a nationally recognized holiday.

Overtime and Rest Day Provisions

For overtime work conducted on March 20, employers must provide an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate on top of the standard holiday pay. In cases where the regular holiday coincides with an employee's designated rest day, the compensation structure becomes more complex. The employer shall pay the employee an additional 30 percent of the basic wage of 200 percent, along with an extra 30 percent of the hourly rate for any overtime hours worked.

Payment for Non-Working Employees

Employees who do not work on the holiday are not left out. DOLE mandates that these individuals receive 100 percent of their regular wage for the day, ensuring that all workers benefit from the holiday declaration regardless of their work schedule.

Purpose of the Holiday Declaration

Proclamation 1189, which established March 20, 2026, as a regular holiday nationwide, aims to foster unity and cultural respect. The declaration is intended to allow Filipinos to join their Muslim compatriots in observing and celebrating Eid'l Fitr in an atmosphere of peace and harmony. This move highlights the government's commitment to inclusivity and recognition of diverse religious practices within the country.

DOLE has emphasized that "workers can expect holiday pay," reinforcing the department's dedication to upholding labor rights and ensuring that employees are adequately compensated for holidays. This advisory serves as a crucial reminder for employers to comply with these regulations to avoid penalties and support fair labor practices.
