DOLE Urges Companies to Grant Leave for Child Measles-Rubella Vaccinations
DOLE Urges Leave for Child Measles-Rubella Vaccinations

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has issued a strong appeal to companies across the Philippines, urging them to permit employees with children under five years old to take time off work to accompany their kids for measles-rubella vaccinations. This initiative aims to bolster the Department of Health's Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA), a critical public health campaign designed to protect young children from these preventable diseases.

Labor Advisory Details and Employer Responsibilities

In Labor Advisory No. 02-2026, dated February 9, 2026, and released publicly on Wednesday, DOLE outlined specific guidelines for employers. The advisory strongly encourages companies to excuse employees from work when they need to take their children for scheduled vaccinations. Additionally, it recommends allowing leave if parents must care for their children due to adverse reactions from the vaccine on the following day.

Employees may utilize their available leave credits during the MR-SIA period, provided this aligns with existing company policies or collective bargaining agreements. To qualify for this excused absence, concerned employees must present proof of vaccination, ensuring transparency and accountability in the process.

Workplace Vaccination Programs and Coordination

Beyond granting leave, DOLE is actively encouraging companies to open their workplaces to host MR-SIA activities. This can be integrated into existing occupational safety and health programs or family welfare initiatives, fostering a supportive environment for working parents.

Employers have the option to establish temporary vaccination posts within their premises and utilize occupational health personnel as part of the vaccination teams. This proactive approach not only facilitates easier access for employees but also demonstrates corporate social responsibility in promoting community health.

DOLE advises firms to coordinate with the Department of Health or local government units to inquire about vaccination schedules and ensure seamless implementation. Such collaboration is vital for the success of the immunization drive, helping to reach more children and enhance public health outcomes nationwide.
