Health Workers Stage Protest at DOH Office Demanding Wage Hikes and Benefits
The Alliance of Health Workers (AHW) organized a significant protest action directly in front of the central office of the Department of Health (DOH) in Manila. The protesting health workers presented a clear list of demands aimed at improving their working conditions and financial stability. These included a substantial increase in their base salaries, the immediate release of long-overdue bonuses and various allowances, and the crucial regularization of numerous contractual employees who currently lack job security and full benefits.
Cristy Donguines, the Secretary General of the AHW, articulated the group's frustrations during the rally. She stated that since Health Secretary Ted Herbosa assumed office, the health workers have felt a distinct lack of recognition and support for their essential roles within the healthcare system.

Donguines emphasized that the escalating prices of basic commodities and general cost of living have placed an unbearable burden on many health workers. With salaries that are already considered low relative to their critical responsibilities, the inflationary pressures have made it increasingly difficult for them to sustain their families and maintain a decent standard of living.
