Wage Boards Accelerate Review of Pay Hike Petitions Amid Economic Pressures

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) 7 in Central Visayas has announced its commitment to expedite the deliberation process for a wage hike petition filed in late March. In an official statement, the board emphasized that it will thoroughly review, conduct hearings, and make a decision on the petition, taking into account the current economic challenges faced by Filipinos.

Urgent Evaluation Amid Extraordinary Circumstances

"Considering the extraordinary situation we have, we will evaluate the said petition with urgency," stated the Central Visayas wage board. The board further assured that its actions will be guided by prudence, fairness, justice, and a careful analysis of prevailing economic data. This move comes as the region's last wage order took effect on October 4, 2025, highlighting the need for timely adjustments to support workers in the private sector.

National Capital Region to Begin Wage Review Cycle

Simultaneously, the RTWPB National Capital Region (NCR) is scheduled to initiate its wage review process for Metro Manila workers next month. According to the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), the regional wage boards will kick off the 2026-2027 wage review cycle with the NCR board leading the way.

"The next cycle is anticipated to commence by May 2026, or within 60 days prior to the anniversary of the National Capital Region wage order," explained the NWPC. The last wage order in the NCR was implemented on July 18, 2025, setting the stage for upcoming evaluations.

Comprehensive Coverage Across All Regions

It is important to note that all 16 RTWPBs across the Philippines have already issued wage orders for private sector workers during the 2025–2026 wage review cycle. This nationwide effort underscores the ongoing commitment to address labor concerns and ensure equitable compensation in line with economic conditions.

The accelerated review processes in Central Visayas and the NCR reflect a proactive approach by wage boards to respond to pressing financial hardships, aiming to balance the needs of workers with sustainable economic growth.
