"Establishing a direct flight is a response to the growing demand for passengers," Endo stated. "It is the decision of airline companies whether it is economically viable to operate these services."

Endo acknowledged the frustration among Dabawenyos who currently must transit through Manila for flights to Japan. He expressed understanding for travelers preferring to avoid these connections, noting that direct flights typically enhance tourism flows and convenience.

Filipinos are among Japan's fastest-growing Southeast Asian source markets, driven by factors such as eased visa policies, expanded flight capacity, and a weaker yen making travel more affordable.
