Tugbok National High School SPA Students Launch First Visual Arts Exhibit in Davao City
In a groundbreaking moment for the local arts scene in Tugbok District, Davao City, Tugbok National High School's Special Program in the Arts (SPA) has achieved a historic milestone with its inaugural painting exhibit. This event marks the first showcase since the program's implementation in the previous academic year, highlighting a full year of students' masterpieces and their remarkable creative development.
Showcasing Student Masterpieces
The simple yet impactful exhibit featured a diverse array of painting pieces created by students throughout the school year. Among the displayed works were outputs from the painting masterclass led by Dadai Joaquin, demonstrating the technical skills and artistic vision nurtured within the program.
Student Gwyn Zsofia Abragan shared her personal connection to the arts, stating, "Drawing has been a part of me since I was a child, and I wouldn't be who I am today without art. Art, in particular, has always had a strong hold on me. It's a powerful way for me to express my emotions." She emphasized that the SPA Visual Arts program provides a supportive community where she can freely draw and express herself.
Community Support and Pride
This sentiment reflects the broader community's encouragement for young artists, regardless of financial circumstances.
Teacher Paolo Banjo Cortez described the first-ever exhibit as a dream come true for the SPA Visual Arts family. "Seeing the pride in the parents' eyes made those long, late-afternoon sessions—working until the sun went down—all worth it," he said. Cortez added that the community's involvement transformed the event into a warm celebration of student growth and talent, featuring beautiful acrylic on canvas works and a Culture Wall mural meticulously crafted by the students.
A Platform for Artistic Expression
The exhibit served as a vital platform for students to express themselves, showcase their artistic abilities, and celebrate their achievements as budding visual artists. By providing this opportunity, Tugbok National High School's SPA program not only fosters individual creativity but also enriches the cultural landscape of Davao City, inspiring future generations to pursue their passions in the arts.
