The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VIII has launched the Outstanding Eastern Visayans Awards (OEVA) to honor individuals whose leadership, innovation, and service shape Eastern Visayas' identity and future. For years, the region has been known for rising after storms, but OEVA aims to spotlight the people quietly building communities, preserving culture, and inspiring progress.
Recognizing Unsung Heroes
DOT Regional Director Karina Rosa S. Tiopes stated, "Through the OEVA, we aim to recognize the people behind Eastern Visayas' progress, individuals whose work continues to inspire communities and bring pride to the region." She added, "We have so many stories of perseverance and excellence, but we have not yet brought them together into one voice. That is why we created the OEVA."
The awards are supported by Tingog Sinirangan, reflecting a shared commitment to inclusive growth and regional pride. Tingog Party-list Representative Jude Acidre said, "Through OEVA, we want to provide a platform for ordinary Eastern Visayans making an extraordinary impact in their communities, in their work, and in the lives of others."
Ten Award Categories
OEVA spans ten categories: public service and governance, entrepreneurship and innovation, science and technology, education, arts and cultural heritage, environmental advocacy, health, media and communication, faith and philanthropy, and youth leadership. These categories highlight the diverse contributions shaping the region.
Selection Process
An independent Board of Judges, composed of respected leaders and experts from across the country, will evaluate nominees. PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Philippines will serve as the official tabulator. Nominations are open to individuals from Eastern Visayas or those who have provided significant, documented service to the region. Submissions may be made by organizations, industry peers, or through self-nomination with endorsements.
Key Dates
Nominations close on June 3, 2026. Selected awardees will be honored at the inaugural OEVA Awards Night on July 18, 2026, in Tacloban City. Each awardee will receive a grant directed toward a community, advocacy, or institution of their choice.
For nomination guidelines and submissions, interested individuals may visit and follow the official OEVA Facebook page.
