For generations of Cebuano dancers, Balletcenter-Cebu has been a place where young artists first encounter the discipline and artistry of dance. As the institution marks its 75th year, it also reflects on a legacy that has helped shape Cebu's dance community.
A Legacy of Training and Excellence
Founded in 1951, Balletcenter-Cebu has trained generations of dancers, many of whom have gone on to become teachers, mentors and professional performers. Through the years, it has remained part of Cebu's performing arts landscape, introducing young people to ballet and the wider world of dance.
Representatives of Balletcenter-Cebu — including its artistic directors, ballet master, executive director, company dancers and students — recently gathered for a commemorative photo to celebrate the milestone.
Anniversary Production: Ballet Spectacular
Its anniversary production, "Ballet Spectacular: 75 Years of Dance," will be staged on June 27 and 28 at CenterStage, SM Seaside Cebu. The event will showcase the artistry and discipline that have defined the center for seven and a half decades.
Executive Director Ana Michelle Kesner shared this message: "This anniversary is not only a celebration of seven decades of dance, but also a tribute to the resilience, dedication and community spirit that have sustained the Center through generations. We are honored to share this milestone with you."
Overcoming Adversity
The occasion also comes a year after a fire destroyed the Center's studio. Despite the setback, Balletcenter continued its programs with the support of students, parents and alumni. The anniversary serves as a testament to the resilience of the institution and its community.
Internationally acclaimed Artistic Directors Nicolas Pacaña and Gregory Aaron lead the center, alongside Ballet Master Mhynard Etis and Executive Director Ana Michelle Kesner. The Royeca School of Ballet matriarch Girlie Royeca also joined the recent photo session.
