The 4th anniversary celebration of NUSTAR Resort Cebu, held on May 8, 2026, featured a fashion presentation and silent auction under the theme "woven." The event highlighted the collaborative ecosystem of Filipino craftsmanship, where designers work with local artisans and weaving communities.
Philip Rodriguez: Upcycling and Heritage
Designer Philip Rodriguez presented a 10-piece collection that transformed fabric wastes into couture pieces, re-woven by the women of Argao. "It is upcycling, and we added the glamour it needs," he said. His designs drew inspiration from nature, history, and renewal, such as a green textured ensemble representing a dragonfly after rain, symbolizing hope. Motifs included the Banaue Rice Terraces, Baybayin script, and historical textures linked to José Rizal’s time in Paris. Rodriguez also incorporated piña stretch, a new fiber blend that makes traditional textiles more wearable while preserving heritage.
Bree Esplanada: Personal and Introspective
Designer Bree Esplanada offered a personal collection inspired by family, childhood memories, and television influences. "This is my first collection using color," he noted, citing his love for insects from "Sarah… Munting Prinsesa." The collection took nearly two months to develop, with fabrics sourced through collaborations with weaving communities like Anthill Fabric Gallery. Esplanada described the designs as "very provincial," blending embroidery and graphic illustration.
The evening celebrated Cebuano artistry and purpose, with proceeds supporting educational and cultural initiatives of Tabor Hill College. Organizers described it as "an evening where fashion, culture and community came together."
