Cebu Province Activates Blue Alert Ahead of Typhoon Basyang's Landfall
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) in Cebu has officially placed the province under a blue alert status in response to the impending effects of Typhoon 'Basyang' as of February 5, 2026. This proactive measure aims to ensure the safety and readiness of all local communities as the storm approaches.
Heightened Preparedness and Warnings Issued
According to Col. Dennis Pastor, Ret., all Local DRRMOs have been alerted to the potential adverse impacts of the typhoon, particularly in the southern regions of the province. As of the latest update, Tropical Wind Signal No. 2 has been hoisted, indicating that strong winds and heavy rainfall are expected to affect the area. In addition to the provincial alert, all hospitals across Cebu have been placed on code white, ensuring that medical facilities remain open and accessible to provide shelter and assistance to residents in need.
Government Actions and Safety Measures Implemented
Acting Cebu Governor Glenn Anthony Soco has mandated the suspension of classes at all levels early on Thursday to prioritize the safety of students and school personnel. Meanwhile, the PDRRMO has pre-positioned its equipment for rapid deployment if required, and the Search and Rescue as well as Quick Response teams from the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) are on standby in anticipation of Typhoon Basyang's expected landfall on February 6, 2026.
Authorities are urging residents to exercise extreme caution, especially in flood-prone areas such as Bacayan, Talamban, and Guadalupe, as well as locations susceptible to landslides. Police vehicles have been prepared to facilitate the swift evacuation of residents to safer zones if necessary, underscoring the comprehensive approach to disaster management during this critical period.
