PAGASA Issues Weather Advisory for Warm, Humid Conditions Across the Philippines
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has announced that the prevailing easterlies will result in warm and humid weather throughout the entire country on Friday. This weather pattern is expected to bring generally clear skies with occasional disruptions.
Isolated Rain Showers and Thunderstorms Expected in Southern Regions
According to PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio, isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are likely, particularly affecting the Visayas and Mindanao regions. These localized weather events may provide temporary relief from the heat but could also lead to brief periods of heavy rainfall in some areas.
No tropical cyclone formation is currently being monitored, as no low-pressure area has been detected that could develop into a storm system. This absence of cyclone activity means the weather patterns will remain relatively stable, though still subject to the typical variability of tropical climates.
Temperature and Heat Index Forecasts Across Key Locations
The highest actual air temperatures are forecast to reach 34°C in Tuguegarao, while Metro Manila, Kalayaan Islands, Puerto Princesa, and Davao are expected to experience temperatures around 33°C. These readings represent the ambient air temperature as measured by standard meteorological instruments.
More significantly, the heat index—which represents how hot it feels when humidity is combined with air temperature—is projected to peak at a concerning 42°C in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. This elevated heat index indicates conditions that could pose health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations.
Metro Manila Heat Index and Prevailing Wind Conditions
In parts of Metro Manila, the heat index could reach between 37°C and 38°C, creating uncomfortable conditions for residents and visitors alike. Aurelio emphasized that these perceived temperatures account for both the actual warmth and the moisture content in the air, which together influence how the human body experiences the weather.
Across the archipelago, light to moderate winds are expected to continue, accompanied by slight to moderate seas. These conditions suggest generally calm maritime environments, though boaters and fishermen should still exercise caution in areas experiencing isolated thunderstorms.
