Cebu City Experiences Multiple Landslides After Prolonged Heavy Rainfall

Following several days of intense precipitation, six barangays in Cebu City have reported rain-induced landslides, according to local authorities. The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO) and other response teams were swiftly deployed to assess and manage the situations. Despite the multiple incidents, officials have confirmed that no casualties or injuries were recorded, and all affected roads remain accessible to the public.

Specific Incidents and Immediate Responses

In Barangay Kalunasan, two trees collapsed as the soil loosened due to continuous rain, impacting four families residing nearby. City Councilor Dave Tumulak reported that while no injuries occurred, authorities are closely monitoring the site for potential risks to ensure ongoing safety.

Barangay Budlaan also experienced a landslide, prompting Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival to coordinate with private contractors to assist in clearing the area. The road in Budlaan has since been cleared and is now fully passable, allowing normal traffic flow to resume.

The CCDRRMO was actively involved in Barangay Mabini, where another landslide incident required assessment to determine stability and safety measures. Additionally, a separate landslide was reported in Barangay Buot near a school, with response teams immediately dispatched to evaluate the situation and safeguard public safety.

Additional Affected Areas and Overall Impact

Beyond Kalunasan, Budlaan, Mabini, and Buot, landslides were also reported in Barangays Sapangdaku and Sirao. Authorities confirmed that response teams were sent to all these locations to conduct thorough assessments and implement necessary precautions.

Councilor Tumulak emphasized that despite the series of incidents, there have been no fatalities or injuries, highlighting the effectiveness of current disaster management protocols. He also noted a positive trend in disaster awareness among residents, with many now more alert and responsive to advisories, particularly during extended periods of rainfall.

Ongoing Vigilance and Safety Advisories

Tumulak continues to urge residents, especially those living near slopes and areas prone to landslides, to remain vigilant. He advises following all evacuation and safety advisories issued by authorities to prevent future incidents and ensure community well-being. This proactive approach aims to build on the improved awareness and preparedness observed in recent responses.
