Central Luzon Pollution Control Officers Complete Intensive 40-Hour Environmental Training

In a significant step toward enhancing environmental protection efforts, approximately 80 Pollution Control Officer (PCO) trainees from various locations across Central Luzon have successfully completed a rigorous 40-hour training program. This comprehensive initiative was specifically designed to strengthen their knowledge and skills in preventing and minimizing environmental pollution throughout the region.

Diverse Participation and Program Structure

The participants represented a wide range of government agencies and private establishments operating within Central Luzon. The training program, which combined in-depth classroom discussions with practical onsite learning experiences, was expertly facilitated by Alab Solutions. This institution holds accreditation from the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), ensuring the program meets stringent regulatory standards.

Patricia Santos, the finance manager of Alab Solutions, emphasized that the program is mandated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). "These trainings are required by the DENR to ensure that Pollution Control Officers are competent and well-versed in enforcing environmental regulations and maintaining compliance within their respective organizations," Santos stated. She further explained that the primary goal is to equip PCOs with the necessary expertise to effectively implement environmental laws and reduce pollution at their workplaces.

Hands-On Learning at Soliman EC Facility

The onsite session of the training was conducted at the advanced treatment facility operated by Soliman EC, located in Barangay Eden, Mexico, Pampanga. Santos highlighted that Alab Solutions has maintained a productive partnership with Soliman EC for several years, leveraging the company's technical expertise and comprehensive facilities to provide invaluable hands-on learning opportunities for trainees.

Christian Bacani, the Pollution Control Officer at Soliman EC, detailed the practical components of the training. "As part of the training, we demonstrate proper waste handling and disposal procedures, including the management of hazardous wastes such as busted lamps and restaurant waste. We also walk them through the machinery and treatment processes we use in the facility," he explained. Participants received guided tours of the plant, offering them a clearer understanding of its daily operations and environmental management practices.

Commitment to Knowledge Sharing and Pollution Reduction

Bacani added that, as one of the largest treatment plants in Pampanga, Soliman EC is deeply committed to sharing its knowledge and best practices with trainees. This initiative supports broader efforts to reduce pollution and promote sustainable environmental management across Central Luzon. The training program not only educates PCOs on regulatory compliance but also fosters a culture of proactive pollution prevention within both public and private sectors.

The successful completion of this 40-hour training marks a pivotal advancement in regional environmental governance, ensuring that Pollution Control Officers are adequately prepared to enforce laws, implement effective pollution control measures, and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment for all residents of Central Luzon.
