Discovering Binalayan Hidden Falls: A Nature Escape in Samboan, Cebu
Binalayan Hidden Falls: Nature Escape in Samboan, Cebu

While most people chose quiet rest on May 1, we in Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City, escaped the noisy streets and piled office papers. We fled the city's hustle to embrace the tranquility of nature and the cool waters hiding in the southern tip of Cebu—Samboan. We grabbed our backpacks and headed straight to the Municipality of Samboan to find a gem said to be hidden in the heart of the forest: Binalayan Hidden Falls.

Journey to the Falls

Upon arriving in Barangay Bonbon, we were greeted by a fresh breeze that seemed to whisper away our fatigue from the city. The hike took about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the waterfall. Through lush green fields and under the shade of coconut trees, the sound of small streams served as background music to our trek. With every step on the earth, we drew closer to the roar of water that seemed to call us.

The Beauty of Binalayan

The beauty of Binalayan was undeniable when we arrived at the site. It is known as Triple Drop Falls because of three long, clear streams of water that simultaneously cascade from above. They resemble three white ribbons adorning the rock wall, a sight that takes your breath away. But the waterfall is not the only star. Below it awaits the so-called Gatorade Pool. The water is blue, cold, and incredibly clear, inviting you to dive in immediately. For the brave seeking an adrenaline rush, Binalayan has jumping points from three to five meters high. There are also small caves behind the water flow that can be explored for a deeper experience.

Affordable Adventure with Local Guides

Despite its global beauty, Binalayan remains humble and affordable. The entrance fee is P150, which already includes the environmental fee and gear rental—very cheap compared to the joy you get. But the true heart of Binalayan is its local guides. They are not just safety marshals; they are skilled photographers who know which angles yield Facebook- or Instagram-worthy photos.

Our Three-Day Stay

Our three-day stay from May 1 to 3 became even more special thanks to the generosity of our Councilor Emilio Junior Jaca and his family. His rest house served as our home in Samboan, where the blend of work and leisure gave us new energy to serve Inayawan upon our return to the city. While you are in Samboan, also visit Aguinid and Dao Falls.

Truly, Binalayan is an experience that is not only seen by the eyes but carried in the heart forever.
