LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu - The local government has taken proactive measures as Tropical Storm Tino continues its path toward the Visayas region, suspending work across both government and private sectors to ensure public safety.
Emergency Response Activated
Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan issued Executive Order No. 2024-072, mandating the suspension of work in all government offices and private establishments starting Tuesday. The order emphasizes the importance of prioritizing the safety and preparedness of all residents as the storm approaches.
Emergency response teams have been placed on high alert, with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) coordinating preparations across all barangays. Essential personnel involved in disaster response, health services, and other critical operations will remain on duty.
Evacuation Centers Ready
The city has prepared multiple evacuation centers equipped with emergency supplies and COVID-19 safety protocols. Residents living in coastal areas and low-lying regions are being advised to prepare for possible preemptive evacuation if weather conditions worsen.
"We are taking all necessary precautions to protect our constituents," stated Mayor Chan. "Our emergency operations center is fully activated and monitoring the situation 24/7."
Transportation and Utilities Prepared
The Mactan-Cebu International Airport authorities are closely coordinating with the city government regarding flight operations. Meanwhile, utility companies have been directed to ensure quick response teams are ready for possible power outages and water service interruptions.
Residents are advised to:
- Secure important documents and emergency kits
- Charge electronic devices and power banks
- Stock up on essential supplies for at least three days
- Stay updated through official government channels
- Avoid unnecessary travel once the storm hits
The city government continues to monitor Tropical Storm Tino's development and will provide regular updates through official social media pages and local media partners.
