The Gilas Pilipinas team will face a significant gap in its lineup for the next segment of the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers scheduled for July 2026. This is because the 7'3" Kai Sotto and 6'10" Quentin Millora-Brown will be unavailable.
Sotto will participate in the upcoming National Basketball Association (NBA) Summer League as he continues to pursue his dream of playing in the NBA, while Millora-Brown is recovering from an injury.
"QMB is out after back surgery in Japan. And so is Kai, officially. We’re told Kai is attending the NBA Summer League, which we are happy about. We’re supporting his road to the NBA," said Gilas head coach Tim Cone in an interview with Spin.ph.
Cone also announced that Cebuano giant June Mar Fajardo of the San Miguel Beermen initially begged off from playing for Gilas this time. However, upon learning that Sotto and Millora-Brown would be absent, Fajardo changed his decision and will now join the team.
