Despite cultural differences and diverse backgrounds, Muslim leaders and communities in Cebu came together to celebrate Eid al-Adha, promoting messages of faith, sacrifice, and unity.
Over 3,000 Muslims gathered at Plaza Independencia in Cebu City on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, to observe Eid al-Adha. Imam Nurdin Basang emphasized that the celebration serves as a reminder of unity, stating that Muslims come together regardless of race or origin to honor the holy day.
Also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's devotion and obedience to Allah. It is celebrated worldwide through prayers and reflection within Muslim communities.
Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival reaffirmed the city government's support for the Muslim community through programs and facilities tailored to their needs. Archival highlighted efforts such as the Muslim cemetery in Barangay Guba, facilities for Muslims at the Cebu City Medical Center, and the establishment of a Halal kitchen in the city.
The mayor also participated in the celebration by distributing coins to children during the gathering.
