Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been named the National Basketball Association (NBA) Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the second consecutive season, announced on May 18, 2026.
Historic Achievement
Gilgeous-Alexander becomes the 14th player in NBA history to win back-to-back MVP awards. Active players who have achieved this feat include Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets), Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers), and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks).
He is also only the second Canadian-born player to win the MVP award, following legend Steve Nash, who won consecutive MVPs in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons.
Season Statistics
During the 2025-2026 season, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.1 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.3 rebounds over 68 games, leading the Thunder to a top seed in the Western Conference.
