Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya has extended high praise to the city's Masskara Festival dancers and local officials for their remarkable performance at the 2026 Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade in Hong Kong. The event took place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, showcasing Bacolod's vibrant culture on an international platform.

Mayor's Commendation and Global Representation

In a statement, Mayor Gasataya expressed immense pride and happiness, stating, "We want to commend our Masskara dancers who performed in Hong Kong. We are very happy and proud." He emphasized that their performance not only brings honor to Bacolod but also serves as a representation of the Philippines on the global stage. Gasataya further noted that this achievement is expected to boost tourism by encouraging more visitors to attend this year's Masskara Festival, highlighting the event's growing international appeal.

Delegation Details and Additional Performances

The delegation comprised a 40-member group from Barangay Tangub, led by Tourism Officer Teresa Manalili. They traveled to Hong Kong on February 15 and are scheduled to return on February 20. Beyond the Chinese New Year parade, the Bacolod Masskara dancers also showcased their talents at Hong Kong's Kai Tak Sports Stadium on February 18 and 19, further extending their cultural impact during the visit.

Logistical Support and Historical Context

Mayor Gasataya detailed that the travel and accommodation expenses for the trip were fully sponsored by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, while the local government of Bacolod provided logistical support and allowances. This marks the second time Bacolod has participated in this international event, with representatives from Barangay Granada having taken part in 2024, underscoring the city's ongoing commitment to cultural exchange and global engagement.
