Over 300 Pregnant Mothers Receive Free Care at National Buntis Day Congress in Davao
On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, over 300 pregnant mothers in Davao City benefited from complimentary prenatal services, medical consultations, and essential care kits during the 22nd National Buntis Day Congress. This significant event was held at the Annex Event Center of SM City Davao, serving as an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about safe pregnancy practices and proper infant nutrition.
Comprehensive Support for Maternal Health
Organized by the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society Foundation Inc. (POGS) Southern Mindanao Chapter in partnership with the Davao City Health Office (CHO), this year's congress expanded its scope to include critical discussions on safe pregnancy, mental health support, and disaster response strategies. The initiative aims to ensure that mothers are thoroughly protected and supported throughout their entire pregnancy journey, addressing both physical and emotional well-being.
Dr. Mary Lee R. Lim of POGS Southern Mindanao emphasized the importance of continuous medical monitoring for mothers, not only during pregnancy but also after childbirth. In an interview with the City Information Office, she highlighted the necessity of regular check-ups and postpartum care to prevent complications that can arise even after delivery, such as infections or high blood pressure issues.
Accessible Healthcare Services in Davao City
The Davao City Health Office, through its Safe Motherhood Program, offers free prenatal services to pregnant women across the city, available at various barangay health stations. Theodore Dave Nano IV, Nurse III of the CHO, stressed that health centers are equipped with nutritionists who provide dietary guidance to promote the overall wellness of both mother and child.
He advised that from the first month of pregnancy, women should visit health centers for check-ups with nurses, midwives, and doctors to ensure a smoother pregnancy experience. This recommendation applies to both first-time mothers and those who have given birth multiple times, with monitoring recommended from the first month until the eighth month or before delivery.
Essential Services and Kits Provided
During the congress, participating mothers received comprehensive care including free prenatal check-ups, ultrasound examinations, and essential care kits. These kits contained vital supplies such as vitamins and hygiene products for both mothers and their babies, providing practical support alongside medical consultations.
The National Buntis Day Congress continues to play a crucial role in promoting maternal health awareness and ensuring that pregnant women in Davao City have access to necessary healthcare resources and education.
