Bangsamoro Region Achieves 91% Vaccination Rate, Leads Mindanao in Measles-Rubella Drive

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has recorded a remarkable 91 percent vaccination coverage rate, the highest in Mindanao, during the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA) held from January 19 to February 24. This achievement underscores the region's commitment to public health and child protection.

Regional Vaccination Success

According to health officials, the campaign successfully immunized 523,324 children across BARMM. Dr. Kadil Sinolinding, the BARMM Ministry of Health minister, highlighted that several areas within the region demonstrated exceptional performance. Maguindanao del Norte, Cotabato City, Tawi-Tawi, and Lanao del Sur recorded the highest coverage rates, while Basilan noted the lowest within BARMM.

Mindanao-Wide Comparison

BARMM's 91 percent coverage significantly outpaced other regions in Mindanao. The Caraga Region followed with 87 percent, vaccinating 234,923 children. Zamboanga Peninsula and Northern Mindanao both achieved 86 percent coverage, while Soccsksargen posted 78 percent. The Davao Region recorded the lowest turnout at 65 percent, emphasizing BARMM's leadership in this health initiative.

Acknowledging Health Workers

Dr. Sinolinding expressed profound gratitude to the health workers whose efforts made this success possible. "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our health workers. Without their unity, dedication, and commitment to protecting our children, this achievement would not have been possible," he stated. Their tireless work was crucial in reaching vulnerable populations and ensuring high immunization rates.

Campaign Objectives and Ongoing Efforts

The MR-SIA campaign aimed to vaccinate approximately 2.5 million children aged six to 59 months across Mindanao, providing essential protection against measles and rubella. Despite the campaign's conclusion, Dr. Sinolinding assured that vaccination services remain available in BARMM. He urged parents to bring their children to the nearest Rural Health Unit (RHU) for immunization, emphasizing the importance of continued vigilance against preventable diseases.

Additional Health Milestones

In addition to the vaccination success, BARMM also achieved an 87 percent coverage rate in Vitamin A supplementation for eligible children during the campaign. This dual achievement highlights the region's comprehensive approach to child health and wellness, setting a benchmark for other areas in the Philippines.

The results of this immunization drive demonstrate BARMM's effective public health strategies and collaborative efforts, contributing to broader goals of disease prevention and community well-being in Mindanao.
