Over 40,000 Overseas Filipino Workers Stranded Following Deployment Ban in Middle East

The ongoing deployment ban to Middle Eastern nations has left more than 40,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) stranded, as regional tensions continue to escalate. This significant disruption affects Filipino workers bound for key destinations including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Israel, and Lebanon.

Accommodation and Provincial Returns for Stranded Workers

Many of the stranded OFWs are currently housed in accommodation centers managed by agencies that deploy household service workers. Others have been sent back to their respective provinces while awaiting further developments. The group also includes re-hire workers and those on vacation who cannot return to their jobs due to unfulfilled contracts, primarily because of a lack of available flights in the region.

Government Repatriation Efforts Underway

In response to this crisis, the government has successfully repatriated over 4,000 OFWs and their dependents. Additionally, stranded Filipino tourists from Dubai and Jordan have been included in these repatriation efforts. Just this past weekend, a total of 585 Filipinos were repatriated from Qatar, highlighting the ongoing and urgent nature of these operations.
