CBCP Calls for Special Prayers for Middle East Peace and Support for OFW Families
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has issued a heartfelt appeal to the clergy and faithful across the nation, urging them to offer special prayers for peace in the Middle East. This call to action was made public on Thursday, emphasizing the Church's role in fostering global harmony through spiritual intercession.
Transformative Power of Prayer Emphasized
In a formal statement, Bishop Socrates Mesiona, chairman of the CBCP's Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, highlighted the profound impact of prayer in times of conflict. "We firmly believe in the transformative power of prayer, as modeled by the Church's unwavering intercession for peace amid violence," he stated. The bishop encouraged diocesan migrant offices and parishes to organize dedicated prayer sessions during Sunday Masses or through other spiritual gatherings, aiming to unite communities in a collective plea for stability in the troubled region.
Pastoral Care for OFW Families Prioritized
Beyond prayers, Bishop Mesiona stressed the importance of monitoring the well-being of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families who are directly affected by the ongoing Middle East conflicts. He called for comprehensive pastoral care, which includes:
- Spiritual accompaniment and sacramental ministry to provide emotional and religious support.
- Community outreach programs to engage with OFW families at the grassroots level.

"We commend their challenging work and gratefully acknowledge their request for collaboration from the Church, particularly in offering moral and spiritual support to our OFWs and their families," he remarked. This acknowledgment highlights a collaborative effort between religious and state institutions to safeguard Filipino nationals abroad, reinforcing the Church's commitment to both spiritual guidance and practical assistance in crisis situations.
