Davao City Social Welfare Office Refutes False Cash Aid Claims, Details Legitimate Support for OFW Families
The Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has officially denied viral social media posts alleging the distribution of P40,000 and P10,000 in financial assistance to families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). In a statement released on April 16, 2026, the office clarified that all aid programs are strictly governed by established guidelines and require thorough assessment by social workers.
Clarification on Financial Assistance Programs
CSWDO emphasized that the public should rely only on verified information from official channels, urging caution against sharing unverified claims. However, the office confirmed through its OFW Families Welfare and Crisis Center (OFWCC) that it is actively providing P5,000 in cash assistance to families of Dabawenyo OFWs left behind in the city. This initiative specifically targets those impacted by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, aiming to offer timely support during crises.
Operational Support and Services for OFW Families
According to Jackilou Bandao, development management officer of OFWCC, the center is fully prepared to assist OFW families, regardless of whether the workers return home. From March 2 to 6, 2026, the office handled 128 hotline queries, providing guidance and referrals, while 45 individuals visited in person for assistance. The center also facilitated four repatriation requests, coordinating with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) for appropriate actions.
Additionally, the office offered Psychosocial First Aid (PFA) to 41 left-behind family members affected by the Middle East conflict, combining emotional support with food assistance to address both psychological and practical needs.
Call for Public Vigilance and Accurate Information
CSWDO reiterated its commitment to transparency and urged residents to consult official CSWDO platforms for updates. This response highlights the office's proactive measures in combating misinformation while ensuring that genuine aid reaches vulnerable OFW families in Davao City.
