DSWD Reaches Out to Family of Deceased Filipino Caregiver in Israel
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has initiated contact with the family of Mary Anne Velazquez de Vera, a Filipina caregiver who tragically lost her life in Israel during the ongoing Middle East crisis. According to DSWD Spokesperson Irene Dumlao, social workers have already provided psychosocial first aid to the bereaved relatives and are currently arranging financial assistance to help alleviate their immediate burdens.
Comprehensive Support Underway
In addition to emotional and monetary aid, the agency is exploring potential medical assistance for the victim's father, who is reportedly suffering from an illness. The DSWD is also studying the possibility of offering livelihood support to other family members, including enrollment in the Sustainable Livelihood Program. This move aims to address the long-term economic impact, as Mary Anne was a primary breadwinner, and her passing has significantly affected the household's financial stability.
Coordinated Efforts for OFW Welfare
Meanwhile, the DSWD continues to coordinate closely with the Department of Migrant Workers, following directives from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., to ensure that aid is promptly delivered to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by the regional turmoil. This collaborative approach underscores the government's commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Filipinos abroad amidst challenging circumstances.
