The victim, identified as Lucille Jean Olasiman Gershovich, a native of Kolambugan in Lanao del Norte, lost her life on April 5, 2026, when a missile hit the northern Israeli port city amid ongoing regional hostilities.
Background and Migration Details
Gershovich had previously built her career in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, where she worked as a money changer at Mactan-Cebu International Airport and held a position in a hotel. Her life took a significant turn in 2024 when she married an Israeli national, leading to her migration to Israel in October 2025. The attack proved devastating for her entire household, as her 42-year-old husband and in-laws also perished in the same incident.
Government Response and Assistance Efforts
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ma. Cynthia "Cindi" King-Chan expressed deep sorrow over the loss and assured the bereaved family of comprehensive government support. In an official statement, she emphasized that the City Government is actively coordinating with national agencies to facilitate necessary aid. Although Gershovich was not a resident of Lapu-Lapu City, officials are stepping up to assist her family during this difficult time.
Kim Francisco, officer-in-charge of the City Public Employment Services Office, confirmed on Saturday, April 11, that efforts are underway to repatriate Gershovich's remains to the Philippines and transport them to her family in Lanao del Norte. The mayor has called on the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv to expedite documentation processing, provide support services, and explore all possible repatriation assistance and other forms of aid from the national government.

Mayor Chan reiterated the City Government's commitment to ensuring the family is not left to cope alone, promising additional support and seamless coordination with all concerned agencies.
