Filipino Workers Evacuated from Middle East Amid Regional Tensions
In a coordinated evacuation effort, Philippine authorities have successfully repatriated hundreds of overseas Filipino workers from the Middle East as regional tensions escalate. The Department of Migrant Workers confirmed the safe return of 356 individuals from Abu Dhabi and Dubai over recent days, with government agencies providing comprehensive support to the returnees.
Stranded Workers Return from Multiple Locations
The evacuation operation unfolded in two significant phases. On Monday, March 2, 2026, a group of 57 overseas Filipino workers bound for Abu Dhabi were safely returned to Manila after being stranded at Hong Kong International Airport. This initial repatriation set the stage for a larger evacuation just days later.
On March 5, 2026, a substantial contingent of 299 Filipinos arrived safely from Dubai aboard Emirates Airlines Flight 336. The group touched down at NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City at 6:45 a.m., comprising 23 overseas Filipino workers and two children among the returnees. This evacuation occurred against the backdrop of rising tensions in the Middle East involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Government Agencies Mobilize Comprehensive Support
The Philippine government activated multiple agencies to ensure the returnees received immediate assistance upon arrival. The Department of Migrant Workers deployed its Aksyon Fund to provide crucial financial assistance to help workers transition back to life in the Philippines.
Additional support services included:
- The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration provided temporary accommodation and transportation arrangements
- The Department of Health offered medical assistance and health assessments
- The Department of Social Welfare and Development delivered psychosocial support services
International Cooperation and Ongoing Efforts
Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac expressed gratitude to international partners who facilitated the safe evacuation. "We thank the UAE government and the local government of Dubai for caring for our compatriots," Cacdac stated. "We also extend our appreciation to the governments of host countries involved in this crisis for their safety protocols and defense systems."
The secretary specifically acknowledged Middle Eastern nations for implementing protective measures that ensured Filipino workers' security during the escalating regional conflicts. Cacdac further assured the public that Philippine authorities continue their efforts to repatriate additional Filipinos affected by the ongoing Middle East tensions, with government agencies maintaining readiness to assist future returnees.
