GCash and DMW Empower OFWs to Build Businesses with Digital Tools
GCash and DMW Help OFWs Turn Overseas Experience into Business

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and GCash have partnered to launch "Buy Lokal, By OFW," a program designed to help returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) build sustainable businesses. By integrating digital financial tools with reintegration support, the initiative aims to ease the transition from overseas work to local entrepreneurship, offering clearer pathways for returnees.

Scaling Businesses with Digital Tools

OFW entrepreneurs are leveraging digital solutions to manage growing operations and meet customer needs. Mirasol Bituin, who spent years planning before returning from Taiwan, now runs Mhira Natural Soap and Cosmetics. She uses GCash's SoundPay device to streamline transactions as her customer base expands. Kaiselle Cao Atun and her husband invested in Farm Ridge by Desmond Farm, focusing on cacao farming and organic practices. They invited fellow OFWs as investors, requiring efficient transaction systems. Marilou Sioson built Sauce On Food House based on her husband's culinary experience, expanding from a small food venture to a line of specialty sauces with government program support. GCash enabled faster, secure payments, reducing cash reliance and improving efficiency.

Boosting Support for MSMEs

Government programs strengthen support for MSMEs. Chie Vincoy transitioned from hobby to business, formalizing Deomare Consumer Goods Retailing with DMW assistance, gaining mentorship and market access. Christian Facun returned from Rome, faced medical expenses, and turned to organic farming in Tarlac. Through the program, he gained structured support and digital tools to manage supply and reach customers. Caroline De Ocampo, returning in 2006 with limited support, now runs Cleode Health & Beauty. She notes that digital tools and programs like "Buy Lokal, By OFW" offer clearer pathways. Rommel Forbes started EM-AR Handicrafts Trading after returning in 2020, with DMW training and GCash for payment management, now generating jobs in Quezon.
