The Social Security System (SSS) has issued a firm assurance to its members residing in the Middle East that they can continue accessing critical benefits and services through digital platforms, even as regional conflicts intensify. This commitment underscores the agency's dedication to supporting Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) during unstable geopolitical conditions.
Digital Portal Reliability Amid Crisis
SSS President Robert Joseph M. de Claro emphasized the unwavering reliability of the My.SSS Portal, which enables OFWs to file benefit claims and submit loan applications without interruption. He stressed that this digital access remains fully operational provided members meet all qualifying conditions. For instance, OFWs who experience involuntary separation from employment can avail of unemployment benefits, but they must fulfill specific criteria and obtain certification from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
"Even in these challenging times, our robust digital infrastructure ensures seamless service delivery," de Claro stated. "Members in the Middle East need not worry; they can securely manage their accounts from any location with internet connectivity, ensuring their financial safety nets remain intact."
Innovative Facial Authentication for Pensioners
De Claro highlighted a significant technological advancement for SSS pensioners in the region: the ability to comply with the Annual Confirmation of Pensioners (ACOP) requirement using the recently launched Facial Authentication feature on the official SSS website at www.sss.gov.ph. This tool incorporates a Liveness Check to verify identities securely from smartphones, eliminating the need for physical travel or in-person appointments.
"A standout innovation is the ACOP Facial Authentication with Liveness Check, which enables secure identity verification from smartphones anywhere in the world," de Claro explained. "It substantially reduces fraud risks and removes the necessity for travel amid the current security situation in the Middle East. These tools were purpose-built to empower OFWs, allowing transactions 'whenever, wherever' even in crisis zones."
Statistical Overview and Ongoing Commitment
As of December 2025, the SSS covers a substantial population of OFWs, with 1,476,645 individuals enrolled and 540,018 actively paying members. This data reflects the widespread reliance on SSS services among the Filipino diaspora. De Claro concluded by reaffirming the agency's steadfast dedication to supporting OFWs through continuous innovation and operational resilience.
