LTO Revokes Viral Vlogger's License Over Reckless and Distracted Driving

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has taken decisive action against vlogger Ishi Lee, revoking her driver's license and imposing a series of penalties after a viral video surfaced showing her engaging in reckless and distracted driving. This move underscores the agency's commitment to enforcing road safety laws amidst growing concerns over social media influencers flouting regulations.

Multiple Penalties Imposed

In addition to the license revocation, Lee has been slapped with fines and prohibited from renewing her license for two years. The LTO also impounded her vehicle, which will remain in the agency's custody until she completes all required documentation and settles the imposed fines. This comprehensive response aims to serve as a stern warning to other motorists who might consider similar dangerous behaviors.

Failure to Comply with Show Cause Order

The LTO had initially issued a show cause order (SCO) in February, following the circulation of the video where Lee was seen driving while recording. However, Lee allegedly failed to attend the scheduled hearing and did not submit any explanation, prompting the agency to resolve the case without her input. According to the LTO, despite previous orders banning her from driving, she continued to operate a vehicle, leading to additional violations including driving without a valid license.

Supplemental Order Details Violations

In a supplemental order released on April 20, the LTO outlined Lee's specific infractions: reckless driving, operating a vehicle without a valid license, violating the anti-distracted driving law, and being deemed unfit to drive. These charges highlight the severity of her actions and the potential risks they posed to public safety.

Vlogger's Defense and Agency's Response

In a Facebook post, Lee claimed she did not receive a copy of the SCO, stating that no document was provided to her "in black and white," even though the LTO asserted they had sent a copy. This discrepancy has sparked discussions about communication protocols in legal proceedings, but the agency maintains that due process was followed in enforcing the penalties.

The case has drawn significant public attention, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving and the consequences of ignoring traffic laws, especially for individuals with large online followings.
